For many generations we have been getting the latest news from newspapers to television to even our mobile phones. But the thing is will we actually be getting news from newspapers in 20 years? 30 years? Or even 50 years? It's doubtful, but life is very unpredictable that there are no guarantees! As the number of people that actually read the newspaper rapidly declines, is subscribing or purchasing ANY newspaper really worth it? If you read it everyday like my grandparents do, probably so. If you don't read it at all, its probably not worth wasting money for it. Take a look at this article of how big of a decline newspapers has become by clicking here.
Let's look at the perspective of two of Maryland's newspapers, The Baltimore Sun and the Dundalk Eagle. Which one has a better chance of still being around in 20 years and which one will crumble and completely shut down? You can make an argument for both, even if you don't read either of them at all! This is what I think...
I believe the Baltimore Sun has a rather significant edge over the Dundalk Eagle, in my opinion, for obvious reasons. The Baltimore Sun has a better chance of attracting a larger amount of people in the area than the Dundalk Eagle, hence Dundalk being a smaller location than the city of Baltimore. Baltimore Sun can also keep us up to date on what happens around the state of Maryland such professional teams, big events, Inner Harbor, and so on. Since Dundalk Eagle is only a local paper, it can only provide so much to the community reading their newspaper leaving with a likely clear disadvantage in comparison to the Baltimore Sun.
Though nothing is never "set in stone", something is bound to happen in 20 years. And when it all comes down to it, WE essentially control the fate of the newspaper. After all, people did INVENT the newspaper in the first place!
Yes! I love what you said about how we control the fate of the newspaper! It gives me a glimmer of hope! Haha...seriously though, I will be so sad if the newspaper shuts down altogether. But as you said, who knows?! Vintage is in...come on, hipsters! Do your thing! You brought back mom jeans and the typewriter...newspapers should be next on the list! lol! :)
ReplyDeleteWe do hold the fate of the newspaper but I don't see much hope lol. Our generation is too brainwashed into technology and electronics
Deleteour generation is controlled by the new technology lol i don't think there's no hope at all
DeleteI couldn't agree with you more, we are the next generation.. and we ultimately have the power to decide how things will turn out. But sadly enough with the world being so digitalized and our generation being more technically advanced than any of the other that have come before us I feel that their is honestly little hope for the newspaper.
ReplyDeleteI believe 50 years from now there will be robots cooking us breakfast and telling us the weather before we step out. As technology advances, print media seems to be diminishing. I'm not looking forward to the day though...
ReplyDeleteThe only reason i think that the eagle still exist is because of the older generation who do not know how to use a computer or a table and rely on a newspaper to get the news. Once they go you might as well bury the eagle with them unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog title and fits the theme!
